Mismatched Wheels

Am I missing something here ?

My 68' GTO has 15s in the rear and 14s up front. Is there are reason for this that I don't understand ?
The wheels are American Racings Outlaw I type. You know, Centerline knock offs. I would like to find some 15" fronts but all I ever see are 14".

I'm talking used here but I may have to go new at Summit or Jegs. I was thinking a Dragstar type would go well with this look on the front as well.

Smaller wheels mean less weight. I've also seen them staggered in order to use different heights on tires to achieve the proper stance. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Sometimes I wonder if I should just run the same size all around. I seem to have an easier time finding complete sets with tires than I do just two fronts.

I don't know. I guess I need to be patient. There is always something popping up on Craigs List.

I don't get it either. I don't know why the previous owner didn't just use one or the other.

Oh I get it now, your talking about the picture. It's hard to tell sometimes.

It's Punisher's fault. If I had never seen his cars I would have never wanted to go that way. They look so awesome with the ultra skinny tires on front. I know they are not pratical for the street but I just got to have them.

Well I checked on the wheels too late. On the PY Forums, the wheels were $70 plus about $50 for shipping.
The seller decided to run them on Ebay and got almost $270 plus $40 for shipping. Good for them, bad for me.

Actually, Jegs has the wheels I want for just $74.99 each new. If I can get the tires wholesale I can have everything new for what the used ones go for plus shipping.

I scored some "star" rims on E-bay today. 2 15X7s to run on the front. I know they're kind of clique but they just about go with anything. I have American Racing pseudo Centerlines on back so they will work.

I know unseen used rims are risky. They seem to have a little road rash, but I was going to give them the brushed look anyway. My rear Outlaws are brushed. Then again, I could polish them all. I've been know to sit cross legged in the floor and polish while I watch a movie or listen to some tunes.

I hate to say it, but I'm not really sure what used wheels and tires go for these days. My research shows that a lot of the wheels are made offshore now in China. I looked at a lot of "drag star" or "Centerline" type wheels on line. Some were expensive race type, some where el cheapos.

These wheels look like they are drilled and tapped for center caps. Most of the ones I've looked at don't have this feature. I'll find out what I bought when they get here.

I was the only one who bid on them so that makes me wonder what I bought !

Looks like I made a big mistake. The wheels came in today and they have a big postitve offset. They are 5 1/2 " positive offset and that is going to be a problem clearing my A-arms. I think an A body GTO needs about 4 to 4 1/4 positive offset. I didn't think to ask about the offset.

I hate to admit it, but I have never bought aftermarket wheels. The ones I had always came on the cars I bought.

I'll just resell them and start again.

Billet spacers will allow you to make up for the difference in backspacing.
Just select the thickness you need at the link below.
The biggest drawback is price.

I've heard people caution to not use these for racing.
I had some that I drove pretty hard and I never had any trouble, mine were even cast metal much lower grade than these.

I thought about using spacers. As a matter of fact, the person I bought them from used spacers.

I know better really, I just did a visual and thought these wheels would work fine. Should have done a bit of research on my current wheels first.

Also, it's better to pick your tire first and then get a rim to work with the car and tire.
